ABKA Spring Day School 2014

PROGRAMME
Four lectures from two very prestigious and celebrated beekeepers

Celia Davis –

  • Nuc it! – A talk in praise of the nucleus hive and describing some of itsmany uses in the apiary.
  • Mr Bee (note the title). The essential drone, his life, structure, importanceto the colony and how he has been affected by Varroa.

    Glyn Davis –

    • The Essential Mating Process in the Honeybee. This explains why it is socomplicated and hazardous – but essential that way.
    • Devon’s 2012 investigation into Drone Laying Queens follows on from hisfirst lecture and describes our observations and future intentions. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS EVENT.

      All visitors are welcome subject to booking.

Please note we are expecting a very high turnout so please book early to avoid disappointment.

      REFRESHMENTS – Tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided, for which a small voluntary donation would be appreciated. There are various pubs and a cafe in Chew Magna where lunch could be taken or alternatively you may eat your own packed lunch in the venue.

      A raffle will be held on the day to raise funds towards the cost of the event.

      Diane Sleigh (a Thorne’s agent) who runs ‘the Bee depot’ will be bringing bee equipment/ hive parts/marker pens etc. for sale.
