Apiary Update 29th March – Brockley goes Live!!

Our new club apiary at Brockley Lane now has bees in residence. The three surviving colonies from Langford were moved across this morning.

One or two of them even stuck their heads out of the door in a sunny spell; they seemed happy with their new surroundings, but I told them it was far too cold and they should get back inside. If you look very closely at the picture you can see a bee on the stand rail to the left of the 5.

We will have another working session on Sat Apr 6th 10 – 12. If the skip is on site we can clear the site for the shed and there are still some stand bases to lay.

As the current cold weather looks set to continue into next week it is probable that the beginners’ apiary session will not be until Apr 14th. This means the first open session will not be until Apr 21st. Watch this space.

The BBKA winter loss survey asks us not to count our surviving colonies until Apr 1st; that may be an optimistic date this year.
