Workshop Group on Queen rearing

There has been interest shown in the branch in developing skills in queen rearing, particularly following Ivor’s talk in October.

In the spring next year we are going to set up a workshop group to explore and try out the variety of ways in queen rearing. This group will meet initially (probably late March) to set out what it hopes to achieve and how.

The subsequent meetings will then be arranged to meet the needs of the individuals and the group. We intend to use both the apiaries of participants and the club apiary. Phil Clemente has agreed to act as advisor to the group at times we may bring in other experienced members of the branch who have been involved in queen rearing. However the onus will be on the members of the group to work together and support each other in developing their skills.

Before we first meet it would be expected that members of the group will have done some reading around the subject so they are aware of the variety of alternatives in rearing queens and the one most appropriate to their needs and interests.

The group will be limited to 12.

If you are interested in joining the group could you email me here.  Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. It will be expected the participants will have been keeping bees for over two summers.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like further information.
